Why Insadong for Hands-on Culture
Insadong concentrates craft workshops and heritage experiences within a 10–15-minute stroll: make your own name seal (dojang), fold colors into hanji (traditional paper), learn classic knots, sip tea in a hanok garden, and even join a Templestay. On weekends the main street becomes a pedestrian-only zone (Sat 14:00–22:00; Sun 10:00–22:00), so you can browse safely and slowly.
Getting there
From Anguk Station (Line 3) Exit 6 walk straight 100–200 m and turn into Insadong-gil; from Jonggak Station (Line 1) Exit 3 it’s a 3–6 minute walk to the south end of the street.
Make Your Own Korean Name Seal (Dojang)
A classic Insadong souvenir you carve yourself. Choose a stone and script (Hangeul/Hanja), draft the design with guidance, then engrave. Expect ~1 hour for a basic course; advanced options add side engravings or decorative finishes. Prices vary by stone and set; reseller listings start around KRW ~27,000 (USD ~20).
Booking
Walk-ins around Ssamziegil and Insadong-gil are common; for English guidance or peak weekends, pre-book via verified operators or contact the studio by phone.
Hanji Paper Crafts (Beginner-friendly)
Hanji (mulberry fiber paper) is strong and beautiful. Popular one-day projects include mini lamps, trays, boxes, fans. You’ll select colors/patterns and apply paper to a prepared frame, learning finishing techniques along the way.
